Standalone Photovoltaic Systems

    • Η κατοικία σας είναι πολύ μακριά από το δίκτυο της ΔΕΗ;
    • Ανησυχείτε για την αύξηση της τιμής του ηλεκτρικού από την ΔΕΗ;
    • Θέλετε να είστε ενεργειακά αυτόνομοι;
    • Θέλετε να συμβάλλετε και εσείς στην μείωση των ρύπων και την προστασία του περιβάλλοντος;
    • Ένα αυτόνομο υβριδικό σύστημα τότε είναι κατάλληλο για σας!!

CPCengineering undertakes the study, design and installation of the standalone system that suits your energy needs, always using high quality equipment at the most advantageous prices.

One of the main advantages of the standalone systems is the autonomy / independence they offer. So, in case you run a business (e.g. café, store, agricultural facilities etc.), or own a house, on an island or at a region which is remote from the public electricity network, the installation of a standalone system can cover for your energy needs.

A standalone system can be a money-saver, compared to a public grid connection, and an environmental friendly move. For your information, in some areas, where the public grid transfer lines are located more than 1.000m away from the residence, business etc, as in many cases on several islands (Cyclades, Greece etc.) or mountainous areas, the cost of connecting to the PPC is over 20,000 €. In these cases the cost of a standalone system is very competitive, especially if we take into account the electricity bills or any other fees that will follow.

 The installation of a standalone system becomes particularly attractive for the following cases:

  • Remote homes and businesses from the public grid, where connection costs are very high, or there is no connectivity (e.g. islands and mountainous areas)
  • Mobile installations (caravans, yachts, motor boats, etc.)
  • Agricultural, livestock units remote from the grid
  • Remote telecommunications stations
  • Pumping water supply and irrigation systems
  • Remote army units (defense applications)
  • Remote desalination plants

The design of a standalone system is more complex than a grid connected installation of the same power. Indeed, while a standalone system’s goal is to meet the different energy needs of different users at different times of the year, the latter’s to produce the largest amount of energy that can be generated during the day, and be fed to the public grid. This feature of a standalone system requires specialized knowledge and certain methods to achieve the optimal sizing (in technical and financial terms). CPCengineering guarantees the most efficient and advantageous solution for your needs.

The methodology for the installation of a standalone system on a certain region is comprised of the following steps:

  • Analysis of the meteorological data

Initially, the solar irradiation of the region is calculated for a year’s period, then on a daily and hourly basis. The calculation is based on the German Meteorological Service’s database, which is the most recognized in Europe. The above analysis is carried out in such detail, because there are applications where the energy needs are greater not only during certain months of the year, but even during certain hours of a day, etc. Furthermore, the optimal placing of the PV panels, or/and of the Wind Turbine is decided, taking into account the possible effects of shading caused by trees, mountains, nearby buildings etc.

  • Calculation of the energy demands

A detailed calculation of all the electrical loads is carried out. At the same time there is a detailed description of the duration of the use of each load (e.g. Kitchen, lighting, etc) and an estimation of the certain hours that it would be functioning.

The desired duration of autonomy, will determine the sizing of the batteries to be used. The incorporation of devices with low energy needs (for example led lamps), is a strong advantage regarding the smaller power needed (and reduced cost) of a standalone system.

Finally, the incorporation of a backup diesel generator within a standalone system is taken into account when the calculations are carried out. This feature provides a backup, so that even during the worst weather conditions scenario, the stand alone system would not crash down.
